Liquid Density Meter

The DENSITRAK® Model D625 liquid density meter utilizes the oscillating U-tube as a technique to establish the density of liquids and gases based on an electronic measurement of the frequency of oscillation, from which the density value is calculated.

A change in the vibrating mass, (as a result of change in the fluid density) shifts the resonant frequency.

The DENSITRAK® meter produces a square wave frequency output signal that can be processed by a microprocessor based signal converter (SPUD) or commercially available flow computer (an Omni Flow Computer for example)

It is very important to realize that there are three variables that greatly affect the density of a fluid – Fluid Composition, Temperature and Pressure. A microprocessor (SPUD) or Flow Computer utilizes built in algorithms to compute density based on these variables. Each densitometer has a unique set of Fluid Composition, Temperature, and Pressure Coefficients which are utilized by the microprocessor or flow computer in calculating the live fluid density. These coefficients are determined by careful calibration in the Analytical Flow Technologies LLC laboratory for each individual meter.

Electronics

Analytical Flow Technologies LLC has designed an entirely new electronics package that will work with both new Analytical Flow Technology DENSITRAK® densitometers and older Calibron / Honeywell Enraf built densitometers already in service.

DENSITRAK® DENSITY METER’S NEW DENSITY PROCESSOR

DENSI-TRAX DENSITY PROCESSOR SOFTWARE:  Communication and Integration software for the DENSITRAK® LIQUID DENSITY METER.

DENSI-TRAX Density Processor software is utilized with the DENSITRAK® Liquid Density Meter and provides the following functions:

  1. ♦CONFIGURE THE INPUT AND OUTPUT (I/O) SETTINGS
  2. ♦MODIFY THE 4-20 mA SPAN for DENSITY
  3. ♦CONFIGURE THE CALIBRATION COEFFICIENTS INSIDE THE PROCESSOR
  4. ♦PLOT LIVE DATA FOR:  DENSITY, TEMPERATURE, FREQUENCY, PRESSURE
  5. ♦USE AS A DATA LOGGER TO RECORD METER DATA TO A “COMMA SEPARATED VALUE” TEXT FILE

Analytical Flow Technologies invested in the design of new state-of-the-art electronics and a Windows®-based software tool for communicating and configuring the Density Processor.

The Signal Processing Unit for Density – SPUD – is the brain of the entire electronics package.  The SPUD reads live analog signals for frequency, temperature and pressure and uses these values along with unique Calibration Coefficients in order to calculate a fully compensated live fluid density output value.

The DENSI-Trax Communicator / Configurator / Data Logger, an integral part of the DENSITRAK® Density Meter product line, is a simple software application on a Windows® platform.  The application usage can vary from coefficient configuration;  input and output structure and as a real-time data logger with a real-time plot screen.

One of the most notable features of this software is its ability to show historic data and trends.  Data can be transferred directly into reports, spreadsheets or analysis programs. Data can be examined and archived on any Windows® compatible machine and can be printed out in various formats as required. This data is beneficial when contacting the AFT engineers for customer support.

This instrument has two independent scalable outputs so it can measure live fluid density and temperature simultaneously.
